Acceptable Use Policy
You may only access a device you own, or a device whose owner or authorised administrator has knowingly given you permission to access. Remote Login is support software. Using it to reach a device without that authority is a violation of this policy and, in most jurisdictions, a crime.
1Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs all use of the Remote Login service, software, agents, websites and APIs (together, the "Service"), operated by Houston IT Developers LLC ("Houston IT Developers", "we", "us"). It applies to every customer, every user a customer invites, and every end user whose device the Service is installed on.
This AUP is incorporated into and forms part of the Terms of Service. Where this AUP is stricter than the Terms, this AUP controls. Capitalised terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms.
2Authorisation and consent
You are responsible for establishing that you are entitled to access every device you connect to. Specifically, you represent and warrant on each use that:
- you own the device, or you have written authorisation from the device owner or an administrator with authority to grant it;
- where the device is used by an employee, contractor or other individual, that person has been informed of the monitoring and support capabilities in a manner that complies with applicable law;
- you have obtained every consent, notice, works-council approval, or other authorisation required by the law of the jurisdiction where the device and its user are located; and
- your access is for a legitimate technical support, administration, maintenance or security purpose.
Houston IT Developers is not a party to the relationship between you and the owner or user of a device you support. Obtaining and documenting authorisation is entirely your responsibility.
3Prohibited uses
You must not use the Service to, nor permit any person to:
Unauthorised access
- access, control, view, or transfer files from any device without the authorisation described in section 2;
- gain or attempt to gain access to any account, system, network or data you are not authorised to access;
- misrepresent your identity, your organisation, or your reason for requesting access, including by impersonating Houston IT Developers, a customer, a manufacturer, a bank, a government body, or any technical support provider;
- induce a person to install the agent or share a support code through deception, pressure, false urgency, or a claim of a problem that does not exist. "Tech support scam" activity results in immediate and permanent termination.
Unlawful and harmful activity
- violate any applicable law or regulation, including the U.S. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the U.K. Computer Misuse Act, and equivalent laws elsewhere;
- infringe intellectual property or misappropriate trade secrets;
- store, transmit, or process material that is unlawful, or that you are not permitted to handle;
- harass, threaten, defraud, or endanger any person;
- use the Service in or for the benefit of any country, entity or individual subject to U.S. sanctions or export controls, or where doing so would breach applicable export law.
Malicious software and abuse of infrastructure
- distribute, install, host, or command malware, ransomware, cryptominers, botnets, or remote access trojans;
- use the Service as command-and-control infrastructure, as a relay for attack traffic, or to exfiltrate data from systems you do not administer;
- conduct denial-of-service activity, port scanning, penetration testing, or vulnerability research against systems you do not own or are not explicitly authorised in writing to test;
- send unsolicited bulk messages, or use the Service to support any spam or phishing operation;
- resell, sublicense, or provide access to the Service in a way that conceals the identity of the party actually operating it.
4Covert monitoring and stalkerware
The Service must never be used to monitor a person covertly. Using Remote Login as stalkerware — to watch a partner, family member, ex-partner, or any individual without their knowledge and lawful consent — is grounds for immediate termination without refund and, where we consider it warranted, referral to law enforcement.
You must not:
- install or configure the agent so as to conceal its presence from the device's user;
- disable, suppress, circumvent, or attempt to circumvent any consent prompt, session notice, on-screen indicator, or audit record produced by the Service;
- modify, repackage, or reverse engineer the agent to remove or weaken any of those signals;
- use the Service to intercept communications, capture credentials, or record a person in breach of applicable wiretapping, privacy, or recording laws.
The Service is deliberately built to announce itself on the device it is accessing. We do not offer a hidden or invisible mode, we will not build one on request, and attempting to construct one is a violation of this AUP.
5Security and integrity
- Keep your credentials confidential; enable the two-step verification the Service provides for technician accounts.
- Do not share a single account between multiple people, and remove access promptly when a technician leaves your organisation.
- Do not probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach its authentication or access controls, except under a written authorisation from us.
- Do not interfere with service to any user, host, or network, or impose an unreasonable load on the Service.
- Report any suspected vulnerability or compromise to us promptly at [email protected] rather than disclosing it publicly.
6Your obligations as a provider
If you use the Service to support organisations other than your own — which is what the multi-tenant and white-label features exist for — you are additionally responsible for:
- binding each of your own customers to terms at least as protective as this AUP;
- ensuring each of your technicians is individually identifiable in the audit record, and not sharing accounts across staff;
- responding to abuse reports concerning devices under your management, and co-operating with us in any investigation;
- making clear to your customers that Houston IT Developers is the operator of the underlying platform where disclosure is legally required, notwithstanding any branding you apply.
7Enforcement
We may investigate any suspected violation of this AUP. We may suspend or terminate access immediately and without prior notice where we reasonably believe a violation has occurred, where required by law, or where continued access presents a risk to any person, to other customers, or to the Service.
Depending on severity we may: issue a warning; suspend an individual user, an organisation, or an entire account; terminate the agreement; remove or disable access to content or devices; preserve and disclose records to law enforcement where we are legally required or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to prevent harm; and decline to provide a refund for any period affected by the violation.
Our decision not to enforce a provision of this AUP in one instance is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
8Reporting abuse
If you believe the Service is being used to access a device without authorisation, to monitor someone covertly, or in any other way that breaches this AUP, report it to [email protected] with the subject line ABUSE REPORT.
Please include, where you can: the domain or session details involved, the approximate date and time, the device or organisation affected, and how to contact you. We review every report we receive. If you believe you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
If you are the subject of unwanted monitoring, the U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) and the Coalition Against Stalkerware provide guidance on handling the device safely.
9Changes
We may update this AUP as the Service and the threat landscape change. Material changes take effect thirty (30) days after we post the revised policy or notify you, whichever is earlier, except that changes required to address an unlawful or dangerous use take effect immediately. The current version and its effective date are always published at this address.
